Prof: Mahtab Moshirpour / Fall 2022
Dec 25, 2022
While the course itself was quite interesting, it was made unnecessarily difficult by exams that focused on specific nitty gritty details instead of overall understanding and comprehension. While in person open book quizzes and one take home assignment were quite easy, the midterms and final were absolutely brutal and heavily weighted.
Learning about neuroplasticity and neurochemistry was quite fascinating, but may not have an application for students looking to pursue more theoretical realms of psychology.
While the prof was passionate about her work and it showed, this did not necessarily translate to engaging teaching methods. Difficult subjects were not broken down in simplistic terms, and the teacher spent a lot of time focusing on ideas that were not relevant for the exam.
Make sure to attend every class or at the very least get notes from other classmates if you miss a class, because each class is very detailed and covers a lot of material at once. Be prepared to set aside many hours a week to thoroughly understanding each topic covered, as it may or may not be covered on the very difficult exams.
