I absolutely loved this class, but I love music history. I decided to minor in music history because of this class. I would definitely take it again.

There are weekly readings and quizzes, as well as discussion boards and supplemental videos. These were all really interesting to me because I love the subject. There were four essays that were each for analyzing a song of your choice, and those were a lot of fun and very easy.

Professor Hodges was very nice and willing to answer questions.

Do the readings or you will struggle on the quizzes.

Very easy. Definitely take this if you need a gen ed. 1 quiz (open book) and 1 discussion or listening assignment (at the end of each module) every week. You’ll spend less than an hour a week on this course.

The content isn’t necessarily useful, but it is somewhat interesting. If you enjoy music, you’ll probably find most of the discussions to be enjoyable.

Never really interacted with Professor Hodges. After the first couple of weeks I stopped watching her videos altogether and just used the book for quizzes, which were open book. She seems cool though.

All of the answers to quizzes are in the textbook. Just save the chapter as a pdf and ctrl f for them. As for the listening questions on the quizzes, they are usually excerpts from the examples in the lecture videos, so your answers will be in those. As for discussions, they’re a lot easier if you try and use songs that you enjoy as examples. Being from a musical background will also make this class a lot more enjoyable.

The lectures were very short and to the point, which I enjoyed. The content is interesting, but I disliked the textbook, because it sometimes felt like the definitions were vague. I feel like this demonstrated when I saw people using the same word 3 different ways. I loved that we got to analyze songs of our choosing. Sometimes you do need to read/watch supplemental material. I wish it was just included in the lectures since they were so short.

Professor Hodges was a great lecturer who was passionate, making her engaging.

This class is so easy, if you need a humanity, TAKE IT!

Easiest class taken at UF. For the essays in which you write about a song, just pick one you like and have fun with it, you'll get a 100 if you write basically anything.
