I'm a poli sci major so I took this course as a pre-req. As someone who loves politics, this class is a breeze. The professor assigns you reading everyday, but it's only one chapter a day and as long as you read it it's amazingly easy. Textbooks are required.

Monday and Tuesday: She assigns us chapters out of Essentials of Comparative Politics the day before and goes over it the next day in class via a PowerPoint. She also has us do an open note and open book worksheet based on those chapters. Wednesday and Thursday: She assigns us chapters out of Cases in Comparative Politics the day before, each chapter focusing on a different country. Then, as with the other book, she goes over the chapters the next day in class. Friday: We have a close book, close note quiz on Canvas based on the Cases in Comparative Politics chapters. Quizzes during my semester weren't honor locked and she didn't view anyone's screens, but I don't know if that'll change in other semesters. Quizzes are usually 20 multiple choice and/or true or false questions.

Prof. Gupte is a PhD student who used to TA for this class and is now teaching it. She's very laid back and is good about giving extensions for assignments and quizzes. Her office hours are good for questions, and she also answers emails and allows you to stay after class to talk. Potential Downsides: she is very attendance and participation heavy. She will wait for people to answer questions, but she doesn't call on people.

READ THE BOOKS! If you don't, you will be lost during the PowerPoints and quizzes. Yes, the worksheets may be open note but they also aren't the bulk of your grade. Also make sure to show up so you can get those free attendance points.
