I initially did not perform very well in this course but after I put in the work for the class, I ended up being able to perform very well. As long as you make this class a priority and put in a lot of time doing practice problems as well as the worksheets, you should be fine.

It's really not difficult content wise, it's just a lot of homework that takes up most of your time (flipped class- so you have to watch lectures 3 times a week at home and there is a quiz for every lecture due, then 2 aleks assignments roughly once a week, and an extra hw on canvas plus discussion worksheets). I took into to chem and that helped me a lot for the first exam, but besides that I took lecture notes, tried to pay attention during class, and used study edge which really helped reinforce everything.
I loved Harris, he is incredibly kind and a really fun lecturer.
Stay caught up on content, but don't just try to practice the math, you should really try to understand the whole lesson. I used study edge and it helped but i dont think it's necessary.

To start off, I only had to take this course because it was a critical tracking course for my major. This class is very difficult overall and study edge was the only reason why I passed.
A monster number of PLAs, lectures, Aleks hw/quizzes, and sometimes chapter hw quizzes which I didn't find necessary for the most part. You have to be quick with watching the lectures and taking notes because lectures are usually due around 12:30pm while PLAs are due around 12pm. It's enough to overwhelm you and this class was super rigorous for me even though I took AP chem as a senior.
Prof Harris was a nice person, but not a very good lecturer. He gave problems straight from the textbook during in class lectures and show you steps to get to the answer, but isn't very good at explaining why. iClicker questions and his recorded lectures were useless at preparing us for exams.
Get study edge once the term starts and USE IT WISELY and make sure to do every single question even if it's a lot. Don't fall behind on the lectures and take everything very seriously. Had I thoroughly worked out on all the type of problems repeatedly and focused more on the concepts I was confused on, I would have done a lot better instead of cramming at last minute before each exam. Final was tough. Don't take it lightly. Got a 75 on the first exam because I neglected doing enough practice problems or did the practice session quiz on Study edge and exam 3 was tough because I had a hard time getting the concepts memorized and second-guessed myself a lot.

The course itself can be rough if you start to fall behind. Make sure you are continually reviewing the coursework rather than cramming before the exam. I had taken AP Chem prior to this course which gave me a very strong background but the exams can still be tricky. Study Edge is very helpful for this class too
The course is required for my major and course taught me a lot about chemistry.
Professor Harris is amazing. He is the best professor I have had so far. He was very approachable and happy to help out. He was very funny and made the class very interesting. If you have to take this class, GO FOR HARRIS!!!!!!!
Stay on top of Exam 1, it can come pretty quickly and catch you off guard.

this class is a lot of work. I spend up to 6 hours a day doing assignments for this. You will have multiple homework, quizzes, lectures, lecture assignments, etc.
the professor is great and i really like him, he just gives a lot of busywork.

I barely failed (68%) in the fall. It was really inconvenient. You need to be on top of the assignments and studying.
For Harris, I felt the slides were useless. Did not have a lot of information or even included the examples in the posted PPTs. The homeworks sometimes had questions from the textbook so I recommend keeping it on hand to cross reference in case you need the support.
Professor Harris is easy going and funny. Going to lecture didn't totally suck. The bad is that I could barely stay engaged when he actually did talk about class material (this is my own fault) and I felt he wasn't great about answering questions in lecture. He was better at talking during his office hours, but even so I didn't feel like it was enough to get me through this class.
The lectures are very fast-paced so pay good attention in class and don't skip or else you'll fail. If you have no prior chemistry experience, investing in Study Edge may help you. Attending the UF-offered tutoring at the teaching center is another alternative that won't cost you money. The textbook is good for extra practice and reviewing, but I wouldn't rely on it to teach you everything. Also, pay attention to the Aleks. Having a basic understanding of what's there will help, I promise.

The class requires a lot of practice and time, but it is possible to do well.
It's the first part of the general chemistry sequence and covers most of CHM1025 in the first unit.
Dr. Harris is a helpful and inviting professor. I preferred reading the textbook and additional online resources to his lecture videos, but during in-person lectures and office hours, he was attentive and knowledgeable.
You don't need Studyedge to do well in this class, but either way, you must put in the time to learn the material and learn it well. I recommend taking CHM1025 if you haven't taken a chemistry course in a while (sophomore year of high school for me). My routine was using the lecture slides, textbook, lecture videos, and/or additional online resources to take notes and learn the material before the in-person lecture (I was in a flipped classroom section). I had a separate notebook where I did the problems during the lectures. For the homework, I took note of the problems I struggled with and retried the homework until I got all correct. I also took note of tips and information I might forget in a google doc for each unit. To prepare for exams, I went over the problems/chapters I struggled w...read more

Overall wasn't a super difficult class, make sure you attend class or at least zoom in to get all the points on the clicker and watch all the lectures
The content is what you would expect, just introductory chemistry; not too hard but started to get very conceptual around exam 3.
Professor Harris was great. Very cool and chill guy. He was very helpful whenever I went to him during office hours and did his best to make the class fun

A LOT of work, my roommates kept telling me about how I was locked up in my room that semester only ever doing chemistry. I had background with AP Chem (royally sucked at it but still passed the exam), and it was still pretty difficult for me. You'd need to dedicate a lot of time to the class if you're not familiar with chemistry at all. It's definitely doable but extremely time-consuming.
He was okay, nothing that knocked me out of the ballpark but nothing that had me hating him. I attended his lectures only for the iClicker, other than that I mainly used the textbook to study, along with the worksheets. Other than that, I didn't find his lectures 100% necessary.

This class was genuinely one of the most difficult classes to take online. If you are in general chemistry 1 your first semester of college, you better get ready to work. Expect difficult weekly assignments and hard exams that you have to study a ton for.
Professor Harris is really chill and honestly very reasonable. He is also very approachable and friendly. I just did not find his teaching methods helpful, but this might have been influenced by me taking it online.
I wish I knew how much you had to practice and stay on top of the material. That would have been helpful to know before.

Awful, literally made to just weed out freshman. Did this while pledging and would choose to just take over the summer if possible.
Nothing useful. Just hard for no reason
Nice professor, but take with Sumner since she writes the exams.
Take a light schedule with it.

The abundance of assignments made sure that you are never without chem work. Honestly so much work and it didn't help. I cried when I found out that I passed.
Useful for Chem 2 maybe ( I did not take it)
He was cool but I'm not sure that the virtual teaching is his style. Most of the discussion were led by TAs.
If you don't need it, don't take it. Use StudyEdge.

Loved Dr. Harris, I did have AP credit but decided to re-take the class. He was pretty laid back and very fair about his exams.

Was not a fan. Only took it cause I had to. Abnormal amount of assignments.
