Prof: David Polson / Summer 2019

Aug 9, 2021

Comments on the course

Polson is an interesting guy to say the least, but does not make his lectures very interesting. The slides are just a mumble jumble of information, half of which will not be used, he uses sound effects which are just... weird, and he also plays random music to try and make a dull subject seem somewhat engaging. The tests were pretty fair and it's an integral class for upper-year psychology courses, but man, that was the most boring class I've ever taken.

Advice

Prepare to want to rip your eyes and ears out every lecture

Comments on the course

this class is so boring but very needed if you are doing anytime of psyc research in the future but I would say only take this class if you need to. There were a total of 8 tests and there were quizzes every class day. There were also weekly labs. Its not hard just you have to do a fair amount of work. Oh also if you don't do the "optional" readings then you won't do well. Also the textbook for the most part is a god send so use it

Comments on the course

Overall this was a pretty boring course to take, but is also quite applicable to research, and would be good to take if research interests you. It is also a psyc requirement. Polson records all the lectures, so you can watch them at a faster speed. There are lots of little assignments, so staying on top of those is really important for success.

Comments on the course

Great class, great prof. It was my easiest class of the term, and Tanaka was wonderful

Advice

I recommend reading the textbook - I found it to be helpful and guided me through the course. If you do the readings and attend class, you should easily pass.

Prof: David Polson / Fall 2020

Comments on the course

I had to retake this class as it was very boring and dull listening to Polson's prerecorded 1990's-looking slides with audio so uneven it hurt my ears. I took it twice before fully giving up on it as he gave no advice on how to do good, and no expectations or examples for the research project! English is not my first language and I just wish he gave examples that aren't dull and unmemorable.

Advice

Lab heavy class, textbook not required, labs don't have mandatory attendance. Take it with any other teacher except Polson. Quizlet is your friend in this class.
