Professor Cynthia Steele Reviews
Class Ratings
Prof: Cynthia Steele / Fall 2021

I was really excited to take this class because of the science fiction focus. The short stories and films were very interesting. I really enjoyed the discussion-based structure because it allowed me to interact and talk with people even though it was online. As an early fall start class, the class was only a month long, so it was extremely fast-paced and had a high workload. My review will not be accurate for a normal quarter-long version of this class.
The class was based on reading various science fiction short stories or watching science fiction films. Due to the short nature of the EFS class, this was very overwhelming and a lot of reading per night. There were two high-stake essays and two low-stake reading journals.
Professor Steele was alright. She didn't really do much except facilitate our discussions and grade our essays. Although she didn't teach much, she is an easy grader, and her essay comments are helpful.
Definitely fill out your reading journal as you read each short story rather than frantically filling it out last minute (like I did). Use Purdue OWL and the writing tutors for the essays.
