Comments on the course

It’s just okay. the only way I got through it was because I needed it to graduate and it counted towards my GL requirement. it’s a lot more work than I thought; - discussion board due every week (analyzing 3-4 articles, it’s a LOT) worth 14% of your grade - “book clubs” every other friday, where you have to read 1/3 of a book, and then meet with people in your class and write a big book report, worth 20% of your grade - quizzes after every few chapters gone over in lecture, percentage of your grade varies by quiz but overall worth 50% of your grade - research paper at the end of the class, worth 16% of grade

Course Content

We talked a lot about how global health and countries have failed its citizens. The first couple chapters are boring, but it gets more interesting as the semester goes on and you learn about values and priories, urban and rural health, and non communicable and communicable diseases.

Comments on the professor

I really liked the professor a lot at first. But then everyone realized she doesn’t have a clue in the world how to use canvas. The quizzes were online, and sometimes questions would be marked wrong that were actually right, resulting in low test averages. When confronted about canvas marking these questions wrong, she instead yelled at us and proceeded to explain how only she has discretion to change grades. Idk but when 0% of the class gets a question wrong, maybe there is something wrong with the way it was graded? she would go through the tests on canvas as well as a “review” and even said how the answers were graded wrong, but refuses to fix them. And then lectures us about our low exam scores and how we need to spend more time engaging with the material.

Advice

I wish I knew how much reading and writing was going to be involved, I took this class as an elective because it seemed interesting and the professor had good reviews…
