Comments on the course

Certainly one of the more difficult courses in 2nd year Mechanical Engineering. However, this course teaches you real and relevant engineering (as opposed to the more theoretical stuff), regardless of which ME stream you want to specialize in down the line. That being said, it's one of those course that requires a fair bit of work in, if you wanted to succeed. This semester was different as Garrett re-adjusted grades, due to this being a COVID year; if you look at historical averages for this course, it hovers around a C. Certainly doable if you want to score a B+ or higher, just put in the time and ask questions; Garrett has no problem replying to emails to any of your questions or concerns.

Advice

Start early; the first couple of lectures (surrounding FBD's) is basically a make or break for this course. If you don't spend time wrapping your head around perfecting the FBD (and solving for all external/internal reactions, following with method of sections), this will be a tough course. Garrett likely will stick to the weekly tests, which can get exhausting but will ensure you keep up to date with the content. This course is impossible to cram, so start early and reap the rewards downstream.
