Comments on the course

This is a great first-year class to be able to start writing at the collegiate level. If you have credit in ENGL 1301 through AP/IB, this will be a fairly easy course.

Course Content

This course covers the basics of research design and presentation with an emphasis on communication skills through small-scale public speaking.

Comments on the professor

Highly recommend this prof! She is very patient and understanding of all students, and she allocates extra time during office hours to work with you personally during the writing process. If you aren’t too confident in writing, Nicole will work with you every step of the way. As long as you put in a decent amount of work, you’ll do great! There are no exams or quizzes, and extra credit opportunities are available. The research paper is most of the grade and you only need to do one paper.

Advice

There is a prerequisite (ENGL 1301) but since this is an introductory course no prior knowledge is needed. I’d personally recommend familiarising yourself with the university library database and thinking of a topic to research about. You can research and discuss about anything you’d like!
