Comments on the course

After taking calculus in high school, this course didn't introduce many new topics. It's still a difficult course though, and it's easy to lose a big chunk of your grade really fast if you aren't on top of homework. The tutorials this term didn't feel particularly helpful, since they were intended to challenge your understanding of the material, but as someone who didn't always fully grasp everything, they felt like a waste of time.

Course Content

The course covers limits, derivatives, and introduces integration. Concepts in this course are very relevant to some other math-based courses, so really knowing how to do derivatives and integration is very important. For students also taking PHYS110 in particular, there is a reason this course is a pre-/co-requisite for PHYS110.

Comments on the professor

Jane covered the content at a comfortable pace with lots of examples, often calling back to previous examples once we've learned something new to show how that example could've been done more efficiently or how concepts are connected. She was very active in the Brightspace forum offering help with assignments and keeping students updated on marking processes and exam information.

Advice

Do as much practice as you can. It's easy to feel confident about your understanding and then get lost on exams because you aren't familiar with some random rule.
